On November 15, 1945, Seattle Police Officer Frederick H. Hull (1896-1945) is shot and killed by a service station owner. The service station is located at 19th Avenue E and E Madison Street.

The assailant had threatened patrons of a nearby tavern (at 1012 E. Madison Street) with a knife and then went to his service station. Several officers, including Hull, saw the man, named Eugene Moszee, in the office, but the doors were locked. Moszee warned the officers not to attempt to enter. While two other officers attempted to force entry through the service bay, Moszee pulled a gun and fired at Hull, who had not yet drawn his own weapon. In the resulting exchange of gunfire with officers, Moszee died too.
