On September 14, 1917, more than 5,000 building trades workers strike construction jobs throughout Seattle. They protest the use of lumber produced at mills with 10 hour shifts.

On September 24, 1917, about 1,000 building carpenters reached an agreement. On about October 5, 1917, the remaining building trades workers settled.
