The employment and income of African Americans living in Seattle continues to improve after the end of World War II in 1946. By that year, the median income of African Americans in Seattle is 33 percent above that of black families nationally.

The unemployment rate in Seattle was half the postwar level as defense industries continued to recruit African American workers.
