On May 25, 1969, the Black Student Union leads a student strike at Seattle Community College, continuing its demands that one of the five white trustees step down and that a black be appointed. Two days later, trustee Carl Dakan resigns, but Governor Dan Evans (1925-2024) refuses to appoint anyone suggested by the BSU.
