In 1988, the Washington Mutual Tower opens. The postmodern skyscraper located at 1201 3rd Avenue is designed by the New York architectural firm of Kohn Pederson Fox Associates. It is 735 feet tall, with 55 floors aboveground and six floors underground.
In 1994, it won the Large Scale Office for Excellence Award from the Urban Land Institute. The building is owned through a partnership between the Chicago firm, Equity Office Properties Trust and Wright Runstad & Company. It was developed and continues to be managed by Wright Runstad & Company.
