On June 24, 1982, King County Department of Public Safety Detective Sgt. Samuel A. Hicks is killed by a man with a rifle. Sgt. Hicks and his partner were investigating a homicide and followed a suspect to a secluded address in King County. The man fires on the officers in their car and Hicks dies of his wounds.
