Newcastle Beginnings: New Castle Post Office opens on August 22, 1878.

On August 22, 1878, the New Castle Post Office is established. On July 12, 1894, the spelling will change to Newcastle. James N. Roach is the first postmaster, operating the post office in the Oregon Improvement Company coal mine company store. It will cease operations on January 31, 1935. Newcastle is located 10 miles southeast of Seattle, five miles north-northeast of Renton.
