西雅图街区:苏域柏公园 (Seward Park)--简史

苏域柏公园是西雅图东南部的一个街区,其名称源于贝利半岛上的城市公园。美丽的贝利半岛一直延伸至华盛顿湖内。1911 年,西雅图市从贝利家族买下此半岛,意欲建造一座以美国国务卿 William H. Seward (1801-1872)(他因主张美国购买阿拉斯加而闻名于世)命名的公园。4 年后,如今西雅图东南部的大部分地区划归西雅图管辖。周边地区因公园随街道坡度的缓和进行建设而得名,同时,随着华盛顿湖林荫大道的建成,人们也可以方便 快捷地到达这里。尽管许多以房地产开发商名字命名的西雅图街区都有明确的界限,但经开发商开发之后,苏域柏公园的范围有所扩大,且部分布莱顿海滩、希尔曼 城 (Hillman City) 及沿 South Orcas Street 两侧的莱克伍德的地区也使用该名称。该地区在种族和经济方面呈多元化趋势,且是西雅图犹太社区的中心。
